In today's seminar we discussed similarities between High End brands, and High Street brands. This is often a topic that is pondered over- is High End really better than High Street? In groups we chose a pair of brands that were similar out of a list given to us. We chose Celine and Whistles as they were known to all of us. Some key words that we picked out were modern, feminine, structured, clean-cut, neutral and more. We then created a few short phrases that we felt summarised the brands together. FASHION FORWARD FEMININITY: NORTHERN EUROPEAN CONFIDENCE. NEW PRETTY NEUTRALS, ARCHITECTURAL GARMENT CONSTRUCTION. NATURAL POLARISED IMAGERY.
Secondly, we were asked to choose our own brands and do the same activity. We decided on Ashish and River Island as they both focus of heavy embellishment, relaxed denims and a playful manner. PROVOCATIVE PLAYGROUND: COLOUR OVERLOAD. 365 ANIMAL PRINTS. EXAGGERATED EMBELLISHMENT. PLASTIC MELTDOWN. POP MUSIC REFERENCING. BORDERLINE TACKY.
I really enjoyed this task, and the next time I view any fashion shows or campaigns I will try to compare to other brands to understand what makes one more desired than the other.
