In Vogue- The Editor's Eye

Tuesday afternoon brought us a film viewing as usual and this week's film focused on the way that Vogue US is ran, and has previously been ran throughout the 20th and 21st century.

'In Vogue' started in a humorous way that asked all major fashion editors and directors what their job was. Their reply? Well.. there wasn't really a reply! Most "errrrrmmmm"ed and thought deeply about this before replying "everything" or "nothing" so really this job is one that cannot be taught. It's for the passionate, the determined and a little crazy!

Vogue hasn't always been solely a fashion magazine. I learnt that before 1909 when Conde Nast bought the magazine, it was full of illustrations rather than the photography that we're all aware of. If this were still the case, creatives such as Nick Knight, Annie Leibovitz, Horst, Jurgen Teller and Tyrone Lebon might not be names that I or any other would recognise. The development in technology in the 1920's was obviously a large factor as to why magazines are laden with beautiful fashion photography.

Stylist and Fashion Editor Camilla Nickerson said "Fashion is there to report on the world at large" which makes me smile intensely as many people don't see past fashion being a garment or photo. Fashion can tell a story or create a change.

I enjoyed this film as it was light-hearted yet factual. You saw an insight into the real fashion industry in present and from the past.
