Objects of Desire

Today we were briefed on a mini-project. The aim is to take one photo of an object that's desirable; this could be anything from a garment to a building. The brief is only 4 days long so timing is key. I aim to take the final photograph tomorrow (Tuesday 2nd December) but depending on my final concept, it may be Wednesday.

To start my research into my final concept I have created a new Pinterest board called 'Objects of Desire.' I am searching through Pinterest to find beautiful photos and interesting compositions to inspire me to take a professional fashion photo.

There's a key trend of colour blocking in fashion photography at the moment. Using simple shapes, a strong colour and one or more objects, a striking final outcome is created. People often use unusual objects such as a piece of fruit, or something extra-ordinary like a pair of socks; This concept is one that I may use. For this, all of the work is taken in production of the photo, and post production editing isn't relevant unless a mistake has been made

Post production is another way to create an eye-catching photo. From Pinterest I have been inspired by the simple use of the 'lasso tool' in Photoshop. I could use this to place the object in another location in an ironic form or something similar.

I think the most effective way to create a great photo is to make it appear as low-budget as it actually is. Photos such as the one below use this to their advantage as it adds to the charm. I could choose my object and buy some coloured paper as a backdrop, or use tape to frame the object.
