Time Square was amazing, bright lights of the huge advertising screens and busy shoppers buzzing around us. We stopped in a couple of shops but mainly stood in the snow soaking up the atmosphere and taking photos. We then noticed on one of the advertising screens a Rimmel ad, which was in fact interactive- an example of a brand utilizing technology. It played the advertisement as normal but the background was showing the crowd in front of the screen- us!
After, we went to the large make-up store Sephora where I had a long shopping list. The store is clean, bright and spacious. All of the staff were amazingly helpful and it makes me wish we had a store in the UK. I ended up spending my whole days dollars on makeup that I’ve been after for months- Anastasia dipbrow pomade, Make Up Forever setting spray, Laura Mercier setting powder and Smashbox contouring sticks. I think I’ll be paying the store another visit before we leave for the UK.
We then made a move back to the Hotel to meet everyone. When we did, we all strolled to F.I.T (Fashion Institute of Technology) to see the “Faking it” exhibition about counterfeit fashion items. (see my post about it here). I thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot!

Then we were approached inside F.I.T asking if we wanted to be part of The Wendy Williams Show audience. We were hesitant, was it legitimate? However we were spontaneous and decided to go as it could be good fun and they promised a gift afterwards! So we followed them around the corner and had no idea what we had got ourselves into…(see my post about it here).
We were so hungry after at 4pm so popped to Five Guys burger chain to refuel on hand-cut chips and burgers. The drinks machines are amazing and I aim to try every flavour by Saturday, which is probably impossible and it’s endless how many flavours of Cola and Sprite you can get. The décor is understated- an American fast-food chain is exactly what it looks like, and maybe that’s why it’s popularity is increasing in the UK.
We then headed to 5th Ave where we planned to take photos of the large department stores windows as we had read that they weren’t being dismantled until the 7th. We got distracted along the way- amazing shops and beautiful Christmas trees, and then we got to the Rockafella centre and the famous Christmas tree there was breathtaking, sparkling beautiful colours and towering above us it was honestly like nothing I’ve seen before. That encouraged us to want to see the view at the ‘top of the Rock’ so off we went! (read my post about it here)
Whilst we were freezing cold (at -5 we would be!) and extremely tired we were so excited and eager to see Saks windows as well as the famous Bergdorf Goodmans. When we reached Saks, the windows were covered- obviously due to them being changed which was really disappointing. However, we went inside Saks, the ground floor being the typical beauty hall. It was a truly beautiful building but I felt that that floor lacked character so maybe if we were to go higher into the store that opinion would change. Bergdorf Goodman’s was the same- the windows covered for the big unveil of the new SS/15 windows but without us knowing when that is, it’s also a huge disappointment.
By this time, about 9pm, most of 5th Ave shops were shut so we weren’t able to go inside but it was great to see some designer visual merchandising on one of the best shopping streets in the world. All in all the first day was a crazy one!!
