3 {new} blogs

In our seminar last week, Si and Christ briefed us on creating this blog. They suggested we looked further into the 'blogosphere' to search for blogs we'd never read before. I understand the reasoning behind this- breaking out of our typical reading habits to look for new and exciting inspiration and research tools.

The first blog that I found interesting was www.MrEssentialist.com. When searching the Bloglovin.com categories, I found myself drawn towards 'Men's fashion'. Whilst this may seem unusual for a teenage girl, I find men's fashion is straight to the point and honest. This wasn't the first blog that I looked on however- other blogs were un-engaging and not visually pleasing where MrEssentialist had a clean, simple layout with interesting content. I can tell through his writing and imagery that the author, Alexander Atkins has a clear understanding of his reader- a successful, modern male who likes to spend his money on looking good. Another reader may be a male who aspires to be the earlier gentleman mentioned. Some content is informative to current trends and on-goings in the fashion world, other content is fun, with short, slightly random posts such as The Many Shades of Mick Jagger which are easy and enjoyable reads that even I, as a female could enjoy. The main feature that occurred to me as being extremely important on a blog is social media buttons. 'Mr Essentialist' obviously understands that the modern man is frequently, if not consistently on some form of social media, and these little grey buttons have his readers linked in to nearly every social media site.

Although the second blog I came across this week isn't an independent blogger, it pleasantly surprised me. http://blog.urbanoutfitters.co.uk is the retail brand Urban Outfitters blog, which has content that I really related to and genuinely enjoyed reading. I often find that High Street brand's blogs are dull, and although Urban's blog layout isn't the most exciting, the content was interesting and relatable to me, as a consumer. There's posts such as 'Artist's of the week', 'Behind the brand', street style and more. Urban Outfitters has also recognised that the modern reader is looking for more and more digital content and they've added similar social media buttons as Mr Essentialist has. This linked me to their Pinterest page that therefore I followed as the content was also relatable and interesting. It doesn't feel like the brand has half-heartedly attempted blogging to fit into the new digital world, and I imagine that they have a social media team that's keeping this, and all other platforms up to date, which really does show.

The third blog that I have come across this week is one that I follow on instagram however have never taken a look at their blog, http://www.manrepeller.com. Leandra Medine has set up this blog as a fashion feminism move to display her personal style, and why it repels the opposite sex, as well as other lifestyle and beauty posts. This blog is filled with wit and humour, yet covers relative worldwide news such as celebrity 'nudes' being leaked on the internet. I enjoyed reading this blog as the posts were short, to-the-point, yet interesting. This blog is definitely being saved to my bookmark bar.
