The Business of Fashion; My first thoughts

www.thebusinessoffashion.com was recommended during a lecture this week, so I've taken some time to check it out. I'm a little overwhelmed. Well, extremely overwhelmed. Some of it's analytical articles are extremely in depth and somewhat un-engaging and it took a long while to filter through the hundreds of categories for me to find an article that I was genuinely excited to read. However, the feature of the website that I found the most useful is signing up to their emails. You are sent an email on articles written about the most current news in the fashion industry.

The 'Daily Digest' tab seems to be most accessible and I will definitely continue to check this website as it's knowledgable and gives an expert view on many brands and global happenings. Many articles give an inside view into the fashion industry from many different sectors, which will be a great factor for helping me understand the roles in more depth. Here's a couple of links to articles that I found worth reading: http://www.businessoffashion.com/2014/09/secret-journey-fashion-piece-part-1-creativity-design.html http://www.businessoffashion.com/2014/09/retail-recon-shoreditch-alls-good-hood.html The first interested me as to see a brief overview of the journey behind every garment made. In our seminar yesterday, Si and Chris talked us through the different roles in the fashion industry and this article is relevant to understanding some of the research methods and tools used. This can be linked to researching into a brand's new campaign etc. The second is in a category called 'Retail recon' which gives a review-type report on any retail shop related happenings. This article excited me, as I love to travel to find unusual and unique stores/bars/cafes. This article has made me aware to the store GoodHood, which I believe demonstrates spectacular visual merchandising, in the same way that I admire the chain of &OtherStories.
