F.I.T Fragrance Awareness

We were lucky enough to have a lecture in the Fashion Institute of Technology where there is built the only fragrange lab in a U.S University campus. I learnt so much this afternoon that I am now excited about next module.

The History of Perfume was interesting; learning that before the fragrance business, fragrance was artisinal, only made for the rich from natural ingredients such as petals and lavender. The industrial revolution in the 19th Century allowed for machinery to create fragrance as a business and in 1900, the first French fragrance brands Guerlain & Coty launched.

We learnt a lot more about the history of fragrance but i found it interesting finding out about 'the building blocks of fragrance'. The fragrance triangle which is the structure of fragrance, is made of a top note, mid note and low note. There's also lots of families within fragrance such as Citrus, Marine and Green. I understand know how the brands are able to create brand new fragrances yearly and even monthly.

Overall, this was a great experience. I wish that it had started earlier as I wanted to have seen more of Brooklyn later that day but I know it will be helpful knowledge for next module.
