Galliano for Maison Margiela

This week brought the highly anticipated preview of Galliano for Maison Margiela (newly named after dropping 'Martin') Artisinal line, usually shown at Paris Couture Week. When Galliano was announced to be the new designer for the famously low-key fashion house, I wasn't convinced; Galliano is known for putting frills in places you didn't know existed and this just isn't the 'norm' for Margiela. It was also difficult to imagine him in the white lab coat uniform that comes with working for the company. He has however remained secretive as a Margiela employee only would, not giving any interviews to press.

The unveiling of this new designer collaboration was a pleasant surprise. I think the success of this comes from the collection being Artisinal and allowing the extravagance that Galliano naturally brings. This extravagance isn't Margiela's style in the slightest, making me consider the possibilities for the AW15 collection that will come in February. Will Galliano last? It's hard to say. Whilst the runway and seating beamed minimalist elegance, the garments frilled and flowed as Galliano's would.

Here's two looks from the show.
